M. Irene Eggerman Photographer: Fine Art Photography I grew up on a
Whidbey Island chicken farm and many of the items photographed I can
remember being used on the farm when it was operational. Specific places
hold fond memories of playing with my brother, helping my father with
chores, or other key events of my farm life. At its peak, the farm had
15,000 chickens, and was one of the larger poultry hatching egg farms in
the state of Washington.
I feel enthusiastic about the challenge to capture and create a dynamic
composition, rich in tones and interest. It’s astounding how many times
I can go to the same place and still find new things to photograph.
Different lighting, change of perspective, maybe a niche not noticed
before.
In photographing the farm, I wanted to express a sentimental feeling, a
sense of the past, and find in the oldness an artistic beauty.
